WV Catfish Stocking Schedule 2024

WV Catfish Stocking

As the weather warms up, West Virginia has started stocking catfish across the mountain state. The WV DNR annually stocks over 6,000 pounds of catfish into West Virginia lakes and ponds.

Catfish stocking in West Virginia starts after the end of the WV Trout stocking, a highly anticipated event for anglers in West Virginia. Catfish stocking bridges the gap between the spring and fall trout stocking seasons.

This year, May 31st marked the start of the catfish stocking schedule for 2024. One of our favorite places to fish in West Virginia received the initial batch of stocked catfish.

The catfish stocking started just in time for West Virginia’s free fishing days. This year they are June 9 and June 10. West Virginia residents can fish anywhere in WV without first buying a fishing license.

In an effort to attract more people to the outdoors, the state of West Virginia is offering a no strings attached way to fish for free. If you go out on the WV Free Fishing days and have a great time, don’t wait until next year to do it again. Purchase your license and take advantage of all the fishing opportunities in West Virginia.

Waterways in every district of West Virginia receive stocked catfish. Find out if your favorite place to fish is on the list this year. Check out the full WV catfish stocking schedule for 2024 below.
