Public Shooting Ranges in WV

Need to get your rifle sighted in for the upcoming West Virginia hunting season? These public shooting ranges in WV are available to get you on target. We have organized the shooting ranges by district so you can find a range close to you.

Don’t miss your target animal this year. Dust your rifle off early and get some practice in to make this the best year of hunting in West Virginia.

These ranges have been established and are maintained by the West Virginia DNR. Be respectful. In order to have public shooting ranges in West Virginia we need to treat them well. Misused shooting ranges are bound to be shut down. Don’t be responsible for lost opportunities for all.

Shooting Ranges in WV District 1

Dents Run
Outdoor range: 100-yard maximum backstop distance with five covered shooting benches.
Location: Marion County – West of Mannington on Dents Run Road, ¾ of a mile off Buffalo Road.
Range hours: 9 am to sunset

Lewis Wetzel Wildlife Management Area Public Shooting Range
Outdoor range: 100-yard maximum backstop distance with six covered shooting benches.
Location: Wetzel County − county Route 82 (Buffalo Run Road) four miles south of Jacksonburg.
Range hours: 9 am to sunset

Hillcrest Wildlife Management Area Public Shooting Range
Outdoor range: 100-yard maximum backstop distance with seven covered shooting benches.
Location: Hancock County − on county Route 14 (Middle Run Road), approximately one mile north of intersection with county Road 18 (Gas Valley Road).
Range hours: Range closed until further notice

Moundsville Public Shooting Range
Indoor shooting and archery range: Limited hours open to the public (small fee)
Location: Marshall County – 77 Northern Regional Correctional Drive, Moundsville. The range is located at the end of 12th Street next to the Northern Regional Jail (small stone building on drive back to NRJ.
Range hours: Open to the public during limited hours (small fee required)

Pleasants Creek Wildlife Management Area Public Shooting Range
Outdoor range: 200-yard maximum backstop distance with eight covered shooting benches.
Location: Barbour County − approximately one mile on county Route 10 (Pleasant Creek Road) off U.S. Routes 119/250; six miles north of Philippi.
Range hours: Mon. – Sat.: 9 am to sunset;
Sunday: 1 pm to sunset

White Horse Shooting Range
Outdoor range: 100-yard maximum backstop distance with 10 covered shooting benches.
Under lease to the West Virginia Rifle and
Pistol Association.
Location: Barbour County − approximately 10 miles north of Buckhannon off of state Route 20 on state Route 20/3 (Crouse Road) south of Peeltree.
Range hours: April 1 – October 15: Wednesday – Sunday, 12:00 Noon – 8:00 PM
October 16 – December 31: Wednesday – Sunday 12:00 Noon – 5:00 PM

Public Shooting Ranges in WV District 2

Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area Public Shooting Range
Location: Berkeley County − Third Hill Mountain Road off county Route 826, 1.5 miles north of county Route 7/13.

Brandywine Public Shooting Range
Location: Pendleton County − Shenandoah Wildlife Management Area in the George Washington National Forest. Can be reached by traveling 1.25 miles off U.S. Route 33 to U.S. Forest Service Route 151.
